R4 volume indicator

A simple solution to big problem
The R4 System uses a simple inverted volume indicator that measures down from the brim. The indicator allows customers to comfortably express how much coffee he or she actually needs, which eliminates the need to make room.

May I have a large coffee with room for 2?
In other words, a large coffee with room for two ounces of something else. The customer now receives a cup with enough room for two ounces of milk or cream. In fact, the employee can add the milk or cream for the customer, which also eliminates a second stop at the milk bar.

Logic
A cup of coffee is typically served filled to the brim, which is fine if you like your coffee black, but this leaves milk and cream lovers with a compromised experience. In some cases customers are asked if room should be left for cream; however, itʼs quite difficult to interpret exactly what “a little room” or “a lot of room” means, so customers often end up using the distance between their index finger and thumb to provide an approximation. While this method may reduce the amount of coffee wasted, it also increases the possibility of leaving the customer with the wrong amount of coffee. In which case, the customer must ask for additional coffee, or leave feeling a bit dissatisfied. Customers may expect too little, or too much, and request that no room be left for milk or cream. If you ask 10 people to approximate the volume of two ounces, you’ll get 10 different answers. This situation is inconvenient and terribly wasteful.
